Why do you consider HGH a Performance Enhancer?
Specifically, I'd like to know why you consider it a performance enhancer if someone is using it to help them recover from an injury and if it was prescribed by a doctor. I looked up the potential side effects from it and they all seem pretty minor (arthritis, carpel tunnel, etc). Cortisone shots are legal and the potential side effects from those include ligament and joint damage. I have to do a paper on this and think there is nothing wrong with using it for rehabing an injury. I agree Roids are bad but HGH when used properly seems fine.
Public Comments
- no its not. its lazy senators that have nothing to do are making it look bad. they should be out worrying about iraq
- it should be allowed for rehab, but there is not doubt that it is a performance enhancer when used for other purposes, such as leaning out, adding muscle, etc
- Ok, but it's still illegal in baseball. If one guy uses HGH to get back quicker, what about the other 30 guys who rehabbed their injuries legally? It gives the guy who uses HGH a competitive advantage even if it technically doesn't make him a better ball player.
- it helps to chemically build up muscles, giving players an unfair advantage
- When a drug is perscribed by a doctor it is neither illegal nor against the rules in baseball. The people that are in trouble now where not taking drugs on doctors orders. Any drug that is not over the counter is illegal to take or possess without a perscription, including cortisone. Until HGH can be bought at Walmart or the local store without a perscription I fail to see your point.
- If it is used properly, than I think it's ok. But, if it's not, than I don't like it.
- Great argument... HGH speed up the process. For regular people, it helps us out, but the only thing wrong is what these ballplayers use it for. They cheat... in this countrys past time, baseball. Do they do it for the stats, the fame or is it for that big contract? It shouldn't really matter. These guys need to teach the future of doing the things right, not by taking the easy way. HGH is a drug and not a medicine.
- Here's the deal with steroids. The criticism surrounding steroids is HIGHLY hippocritical. Not to mention all the other changes by MLB to stimulate offense that get overlooked (designing "bandbox" stadiums, reducing the strike zone, lowering the pitchers mound).
- it is banned by MLB it doesn't matter if a doctor prescribes it or not it is considered a banned substance....anabolic steriods are legal if prescribed by a doctor but still very much illegal in the game of baseball....HGH can give players an unfair advantage and can make them stronger than a "natural body", and for that matter there are legal over the counter drugs that are banned in the league....
- Honestly I couldn't give 2 sh*ts about the whole steroids and HGH nonsense. If players don't care about their lives why should I. They would rather hit more home runs and throw harder than live longer so be it. I just want to see good baseball games.
- Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is not a performance enhancing drug. It can speed up the process of healing by adding skin cells but it will not add muscle mass. However, When taken in conjunction with Anabolic Steroids you have the best of both worlds, Additional muscle cells and increased muscle mass. HGH is a banned substance on the MLB/Players Union agreement and is not permitted to be taken even with a doctor's prescription.
