I have scoliosis. I was referred to physical therapy by my doctor. My back muscles need strengthened.?
Well i'm too poor to afford physical therapy. What are some stretches and exercizes that would help strengthen my back? And also, would HGH ot Steroids help my condition?

- er steriod and HGH only build muscle when yoru working out, u sounds like u never even seen a gym so i wouldnt recommend that for you. for easy stuff to do at home for your back, swimming, pull ups, lay on your stomache and do reverse crunches. there is alot of things your can do
- Talk to the physical therapist. Explain your situation and ask for a printout of the exercises. I know some but can't explain properly. You need to strengthen your core muscles. I never think HGH or steroids are the answer.
- Snap ihave scoliosis in my neck, so cant turn to the right, it lso affetc my right hand. Have you tried swimming, it none weight bearing and helps strengthens up your back muscles. I also got spinal problems in my lumbar, and it was my Orthopedic surgeon who advised swimming or bike riding. The only thing i am not allowed to do when swimming is the Butterfly stroke (arches the spine.) and breast stroke. you could try those. Steriods wont help, in fact they thin the bones after long term use. Exercise is the best way, but build up gently to it.
- please check into vitamin d deficiency ; also if you are deficient and most of us are ; steroids worsens the deficiency http://www.thebabysamshow.com/Vits_Minerals/Vitamin%20D.htm
- irregular growth hormone secretion is one of the factors that's considered for initial cause of scoliosis. Do not full around with that kind of stuff... As for exercises, there are specific exercises for different types of scoliosis. It cannot be taught at this setting when I don't even know what type of scoliosis you have.
- You must consider the condition of scoliosis. There is contracture of muscles on the concave side of the curve and greater build-up of muscles on the convex side. The one that needs to be worked on is not in need of build-up but drastically in need of being stretched out to become equal in length with the other side. Thus rendering the strengthening of the muscles to be rather erroneous. That can be done when the muscles have been returned to a balanced or equal state. You must also consider what is causing the scoliosis. The normal and usual causation is one leg being shorter than the other.. if this condition is not taken care of, no matter how much therapy you have, the basic problem will still exist. You must determine which leg is shorter and then apply some sort of lift to that leg. Usually as simple as a couple of dr. Scholl's pads. If you want specific stretches, can contact me.
